How can therapy help me?

There are too many benefits of participating in therapy to list!  Therapists can provide support, problem-solving skills, and coping strategies for a wide range of issues. Therapists, being objective, can provide a different or fresh perspective on a problem that you have been struggling with. The benefits of therapy depend on your commitment and level of readiness. Some benefits can include, boosting self-confidence or improving self-esteem, improving
communication skills, learning/finding new coping skills, attaining a better understanding of yourself, changing old patterns and developing new ones, or managing your emotional feelings such as sadness, anger or other highly charged emotions you may be feeling.

Will going to therapy change who I am?

Therapy isn’t about changing who you are—it’s about helping you better understand yourself, work through challenges, and grow in ways that feel true to you. The goal is not to make you into someone else, but to support you in becoming the healthiest, most authentic version of yourself. Through therapy, many people gain insight, improve relationships, build coping skills, and make meaningful changes in how they think, feel, and live. You’re still you—just with more tools, clarity, and confidence.

What happens in a therapy session?

Each session typically lasts 53 minutes unless otherwise specified. In the first session, your therapist will ask questions to understand your background, current concerns, and goals. Future sessions may include:

  • Talking through experiences and emotions
  • Identifying patterns in thinking or behavior
  • Learning coping tools and strategies
  • Setting goals and tracking progress

How often will I need therapy?

Therapy frequency varies based on your needs. Many clients start with weekly sessions and adjust over time. You and your therapist will discuss what schedule works best for you.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes. What you share in therapy is private and confidential, with a few legal exceptions (e.g., safety concerns, mandated reporting). Your therapist will explain confidentiality in detail during the first session.

How long does therapy take?

The duration depends on your goals and situation. Some people attend therapy for a few months; others may continue longer for deeper or ongoing support. You are free to pause or end therapy at any time.

How do I prepare for therapy?

There’s no special preparation needed. Just bring yourself and an openness to talk. You might find it helpful to think about what you want to focus on or any questions you’d like to ask your therapist.
